How to turn a bunch of scraps into beautiful things? A lot of patience.
I started with an odd little triangle-shaped piece of eucalyptus that was pretty badly cupped. The cupping looked like a nice shallow dish to me so I got to work on the bandsaw. Once I had the general leafy shape I used a Kutzall grinding disc to hollow out the interior. A spokeshave worked well to smooth out the waviness left from bandsaw cuts and to shape the convex exterior surface. One of the offcuts from this off-cut project had a little live edge and looked to me like a nice coat hook so I cleaned that up too. 45 minutes of sanding later and viola!
They still need some final polish a quick finish plus some hardware for the hook, but not bad for a few hours of work. It was a nice day in the shop and good to practice some of these techniques.
63 slack-days left.
